Anthony B. Robinson
Anthony B. Robinson has been a member of Blacks In Government (BIG) for over 10 years. He is a graduate of Morgan State University with a degree in Computer Science. Prior to graduation, he volunteered with American Red Cross and worked as a Laboratory Assistance at the Bio/Chemistry Department at the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland.
While attending Morgan State University, he worked for the Department of Commerce in the Office of Foreign Availability and then for the Bureau of Export Administration. After graduating with honors, he accepted a computer specialist position with the National Centers of Environmental Prediction (NCEP) in Suitland, Maryland. He quickly took on greater responsibilities in the office. He conducted weekly status meetings with vendors and government staff. He was involved with managing the system user database, robotic tape storage devices, network direct access storage devices and communication controllers. Prior to accepting a position with the Office of Climate, Water and Weather Services, he provided assistance to the Production Management Branch for three months as a Senior Production Analyst.
Anthony Robinson is currently employed at the Department of Commerce, the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration, National Weather Service (NWS) in Silver Spring, MD. As the Chairman of the Data Products Review Group (DRG), he is responsible for ensuring requested data products are transmitted over the NWS communication networks. He oversees a team of 12 individuals which include 6 regional representatives. He also serves as an Operations and Services Improvement Process (OSIP) Analyst for OCWWS. He has demonstrated his ability to draw the best out of people and he has proven his ability to manage and lead teams.
He received a Master’s Certificate in Project Management from George Washington University, School of Business, a Web Master’s Certificate from USDA Graduate School, and a Configuration Management Certificate from Arizona State University, College of Engineering and Applied Sciences. He has attended the NWS Executive Leadership Seminar, NWS Team Building and Team Leadership Training. He is also a member of Tip Top NOAA Toastmasters and a former VP of Public Relations.
After joining BIG, he took the initiative to place the NOAA BIG chapter on the internet. He designed and developed the first website for the chapter that provided a mechanism for the promoting the chapter to a larger audience. Under his direction, the organization went from fax base registration to online registration. He has also become unintentionally popular for his photography skills while at NOAA.
During his years as a member of BIG and as an employee of NOAA, his level of service and commitment to the agency is exemplary. He has supported numerous activities and organizations such as the Thanksgiving Food Drive, Christmas Toy Drive, Black History Month, Women’s History Month, Send Your Child to Camp Program, Bring Your Daughter and Sons to Work, Scholarship Awards Program, Tip Top NOAA Toastmaster, and High School Science Fairs.
Anthony Robinson has served as committee chair for Send Your Child to Camp program. With the support of an outstanding committee, his committee has provided summer camp tuition assistance to 106 school age children. He understands the importance of summer camp and its positive impact on children. He realizes that placing a child in camp not only provides them with something fun to do and look forward to, but also allows them an opportunity to encounter new experiences that can expand their horizons.
As 1st Vice President of the NOAA Chapter of Blacks In Government, he will help the organization move to the next level.
